Allegheny Energy Inc. and Sub Assigned Ratings; West Penn Power Co. Upgraded Mar 00

Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) March 17, 2000--Standard & Poor's today assigned its single-'A'-plus corporate credit rating to Allegheny Energy Inc. and its unregulated generating subsidiary Allegheny Energy Supply Co. LLC (AE Supply). At the same time, Standard & Poor's assigned its 'A-1' short-term corporate credit rating to AE Supply and its 'A-1' rating to AE Supply's $300 million commercial paper program. Furthermore, Standard & Poor's raised its ratings on the senior unsecured debt of Allegheny Energy Inc.'s regulated transmission and distribution subsidiary West Penn Power Co. (WPP) to single-'A'-plus from single-'A', to reflect the retirement of all first mortgage bonds; Standard & Poor's also affirmed the corporate credit, quarterly income deferred securities, and commercial paper ratings on WPP....
