Abstract The cost and impact of the conflict in Kosovo on the surrounding countries in the Balkans are extremely hard to quantify, and the longer it endures the more widespread the repercussions will be. While the human cost of suffering from the Kosovo conflict is immeasurable, the economic costs also are extremely high. The fragile economies of the Balkans are already battling to cope with the effects of transformation and modernization, but the war in Kosovo may well reverse some of the gains that have so far been achieved.
