Merita Upgraded, Nordbanken Affirmed; Off S&P Watch Dec 97

Abstract
LONDON -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 12/12/97 -- Standard & Poor's today upgraded Merita Bank Ltd.'s long-term ratings to single-'A' from triple-'B'-plus and its short-term ratings to 'A-1' from 'A-2.' The outlook for the long-term ratings is stable. At the same time, Standard & Poor's has affirmed Nordbanken AB's single-'A' long-term ratings and its 'A-1' short-term ratings. The outlook for the long-term ratings has been revised to stable. In addition, the Swedish short-term commercial paper ratings of 'K-1' for Nordbanken Hypotek AB and Industrikredit AB have been affirmed.
