Abstract
LONDON (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) April 19, 2001--Standard & Poor's today assigned its single-'A'-plus long-term and 'A-1' short-term counterparty credit ratings to The Scottish American Investment Co. PLC (SAINTS). At the same time, Standard & Poor's assigned its single-'A'-plus senior secured debt rating to SAINTS' -80 million ($114 million) bond due 2022. The outlook is stable. The ratings on SAINTS reflect the broad diversification and marketable nature of the investment portfolio. The ratings are constrained by the relatively high leverage. The trust's asset manager has changed ownership in the past year, which has helped to deepen its research capability, although performance has been merely satisfactory.
