The ratings on Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreen Co. reflect our belief that the company will maintain a "strong" business profile (based on our criteria) with support from its strong competitive position and favorable industry fundamentals. The rating also reflects our expectation that Walgreen will maintain an "intermediate" financial profile, and that its strong business profile will continue to offset credit protection measures that may be weak for the rating. The contract renewal with Express Script was unsuccessful. As a result, we expect earnings to be pressured in fiscal 2012 resulting in a modest erosion of credit protection measures.
