For the past five years, retail sales of pork in Russia have been showing positive growth dynamics. During the period from 2006 to 2010 the sales volume increased from 535.3 thousand tons to 731.6 thousand tons.

The Russian meat processing industry remains highly dependent on imported raw materials. In 2010 Russian agricultural enterprises manufactured 1,459.6 thousand tons of pork with the import volume of 813.7 thousand tons. Over a half of the imported pork was delivered from Brazil and Germany. Brazil supplied 217.5 thousand tons of frozen pork, and Germany exported 106.9 thousand tons to Russia. Belarus is the biggest supplier of pork to Russia of the CIS countries. In 2010, it brought in about 30 thousand tons of pork. Part of it is imported chilled.
