Ratings On Japan's Six Major Banking Groups Affirmed; Aozora And Shinsei Banks Remain On Watch Positive Aug 09

Standard & Poors, August 2009

Abstract
The stress test results of Japan's six major banking groups were within a range consistent with the current ratings, and the groups' financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2009 were within our expectations. Standard & Poor's affirmed its ratings on the six banking groups. The outlooks remain stable. The stable outlooks reflect our opinion that the downward pressure on the financial profile of each group would remain within a range commensurate with the current ratings. The ratings on Shinsei Bank and Aozora Bank remain on CreditWatch with positive implications. Issue ratings on preferred securities will be reviewed and, if lowered, would be limited to one notch.
