Abstract
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services bases the corporate credit rating on Monongahela Power Co. on a consolidated analysis of parent FirstEnergy Corp., a merchant energy and electricity utility holding company. Monongahela operates an integrated electric utility in West Virginia that includes more than 2,700 megawatts (MW) of mostly coal-fired generating assets that serve its customers and West Virginia customers of affiliate Potomac Edison Co. We also base the ratings on the parent company's transformation from an integrated electric utility holding company to a business model that encompasses regulated electric transmission and distribution (T&D) operations and unregulated merchant electric generation and marketing activities in equal measure.
