Abstract
Standard & Poor's Rating Services' view of the credit outlook on the U.S. telecommunications and cable TV sectors is for relatively stable rating trends overall, recognizing that since many of the services rated telecom and cable companies provide are de facto near-necessities, demand remains good even in a weak economy. For the wireless sector, growth continues, albeit at a generally slowing pace for most operators, as the industry matures. In contrast, conventional landline telephone companies continue to experience mid- to high-single-digit losses of residential customers to wireless substitution and to cable telephony.
