Abstract
Credit quality in the North American packaging sector has been quite stable so far in 2011, with only two upgrades and one downgrade year-to-date. While weakening economic conditions are an increasing focus of Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' forward-looking analysis, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) have been the big story in the packaging sector so far in 2011. Most recent rating actions (including outlook changes and CreditWatch listings) have been related to M&A. M&A aside, the packaging sector is experiencing relative ratings stability.
