Abstract
While weak conditions continue to dampen the prospects of many sovereigns, Australia's economic performance and outlook are brighter than most. Indeed, Australia has shown considerable resilience in the face of a very difficult international environment--key areas of the economy have responded well to economic policy stimulus and there has been surprising demand for Australia's commodity exports from its Asian neighbors. Higher consumer and government spending, house sales, business investment, and export performance lead GDP growth 0.6% higher in the June quarter (and 0.6% higher over the year).
