BMI’s Q212 Turkey Retail Report predicts that the country’s retail sales will grow by more than 12% by 2016, from TRY315.99bn (US$242.06bn) in 2012 to TRY355.30bn (US$272.18bn). Underlying economic growth, an expanding population, especially in urban areas, rising levels of disposable income, and the continued development of organised retail infrastructure are all key factors behind the forecast growth in Turkish retail sales, which should expand an average 2.7% per annum throughout the forecast period.

Turkey’s nominal GDP is predicted to be US$826.1bn in 2012, with growth of 1.8% expected, down on 2011’s 7.0%. BMI predicts average annual GDP growth of 4.5% between 2012 and 2016. With the population increasing from 74.5mn in 2012 to a forecast 77.8mn by 2016, GDP per capita is forecast to grow by more than 88% to US$18,078 by the end of the period.
