Other major coal producers include China, the USA and Australia. India is also a leading consumer of coal globally. In India, the majority of its coal is consumed by thermal power generation plants. The cement industry is highly energy intensive and is the third-largest coal user in India and, as such, the robust growth of cement industry will fuel the demand for coal. About XX% of coal production in India is derived from open-pit mines while underground mining contributes for about XX%. Coal India Ltd and Singerani Collieries Company are the two leading producers of coal in India. Around XX% of the coal produced in India is non-coking coal. Indian coal has high content of ash, as low sulphur content, low refractory nature of ash, low iron content in ash and low chlorine content.
