The new government will find it no less difficult to tackle Tunisia's social and economic challenges than its recent predecessors. An additional risk is that the range of ideologies in the coalition will increase the likelihood of it breaking apart.

Many Tunisians are unhappy with the economic underperformance of recent years, which the government will not be able to reverse quickly. Protests and strikes are therefore set to remain a threat to stability.

The government will continue to try to suppress violent Islamist groups. However, this could backfire in terms of even greater instability if the government is seen to be limiting personal freedoms.
