Consumer Goods and Retail Report Norway
The Economist Intelligence Unit, March 2012, Pages: 17
As a result of its oil revenue, Norway is one of the wealthiest economies in the world: measured at purchasing power parity (PPP), GDP per head was US$56,923 in 2010, the second highest in the OECD after Luxembourg.
Norway's redistributive income policies, strong social-democratic traditions and trade-union influence mean that incomes are relatively evenly distributed. In 2011 an estimated 82% of households earned above US$75,000.
Although Norway's consumer market is small by European standards (with a population of 4.97m in 2011), it is attractive to foreign suppliers, particularly in the non-food sector. The food sector is more sheltered from foreign competition.
