The National Anti‑Corruption Commission (NACC) has presented its annual report to King Abdullah bin Abdel‑Aziz al‑Saud. The report's full contents have not been disclosed.

The king announced a proposal to set up a fully independent anti‑corruption body-answerable only to the king-in March 2011, and the body formally established in May the same year. The initiative, which came at the height of the Arab Spring, was taken with an eye on growing public resentment at widespread corruption in the kingdom, which, despite strict controls on freedom of speech, became especially evident with the public outcry after the floods in Jeddah in 2009 and 2011 (after which a number of officials were prosecuted for conniving with businessmen in the shoddy construction of irrigation infrastructure).

Given its relative newness, the NACC has struggled to gain traction.
