This Business Ratio Report focuses on the leading 62 companies operating as accountancy firms. At the time of publication, there was one company which had not filed accounts in the 2010/11 period. A further 22 companies have filed accounts subsequent to the cut-off date, and these are presented in the 2011/12 Recently Filed Accounts column of the Performance League Tables and relevant Company Profiles, but are not used in any of the analysis.

The Report analyses company and industry performance over the three years up to 7th February 2011. During this period, the average Report company experienced a 1.8 percent increase in turnover, rising from £200.3 million in 2008/09 to £201.9 million in the middle analysis year, before peaking at £203.9 million in 2010/11. In contrast, pre-tax profits decreased from £54.8 million in the first year of review to £50.5 million in the third year, a decline of 7.9 percent overall.
