There is a low risk that the Socialist Left Party (SV) or the Centre Party will leave the centre-left coalition with the Labour Party (the senior partner) before the election in September. However, tensions within the coalition will persist.

Four centre-right parties-the Conservatives, the Progress Party, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats-have a big lead in opinion polls. The Economist Intelligence Unit expects them to form a government after the election.

The government's centrist programme focuses on supporting employment, environmental policy, infrastructure and education and healthcare reforms. It may act to reduce early retirement in the public sector over the medium term.
