Country Report Iceland 2nd Quarter

The Economist Intelligence Unit, April 2013, Pages: 27

The governing coalition of the centre-left Social Democratic Alliance (SDA) and the Left-Green Movement (LGM) is divided and lacks a parliamentary majority. Opinion polls show that its electoral support has collapsed.

The Economist Intelligence Unit expects the ruling coalition to be replaced at the next general election, due on April 27th 2013, by a government led by the centrist and increasingly populist Progressive Party (PP).

Support for the other main opposition party, the Independence Party (IP), has fallen sharply, and the party may or may not join the PP in government.
