Tow truck bodies discussed in this report include light-, medium- and heavy-duty tow truck bodies and rollback carriers. STN has reported on sixteen identified manufacturers in this segment.
Rollback carrier manufacture is the larger segment within the tow truck body industry, accounting for 52% of total units manufactured. Miller Industries, Inc. and Jerr-Dan Corp. dominate the North American manufacture of tow truck bodies, accounting for over 75% of the market in unit terms.
Most manufacturers sell tow truck bodies directly to customers as well as through distributors. Dealer networks exist both in North America and in the international market. Smaller companies, too, have dealer networks outside North America.
Two new companies entered the tow truck body manufacturing industry in the recent past. Proton Towing Equipment was established in 2009, while United Recovery Industries was established in 2010.
Jerr-Dan Corp., the second largest manufacturer of tow truck bodies, closed its facilities in Pennsylvania and integrated manufacturing operations into JLG Industries’ production facilities during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010 and the first quarter
