Forest Oil Corporation, Company Intelligence Report

Summary

Forest Oil Corporation (Forest Oil) is an independent oil and gas company, incorporated in New York, the US. The company is primarily involved in the exploration, development and production of natural gas, crude oil and Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) in the North America. It’s Exploration and Production (E&P) activities are focused mainly in the Texas Panhandle area, the East Texas/ North Louisiana region and the South Texas region in the US. Forest Oil’s operations in the Texas Panhandle area are located in the Granite Wash play (Granite Wash) and other intervals such as the Douglas, Tonkawa, Cleveland, Atoka, Novi-Lime and the Morrow. The company’s E&P activities in the East Texas/ North Louisiana region are mainly focused in the Cotton Valley, Haynesville, Bossier and other formations. Its E&P activities in the South Texas region are primarily concentrated in the Eagle Ford shale. Moreover, Forest Oil entered into the Permian basin in 2011, where its activities are in the initial exploration and evaluation phase.

Until 2011, Forest Oil was also engaged in the E&P activities in the Utica shale and some other areas in Canada. The company’s operations in the Utica shale were handled by its wholly owned subsidiary, Lone Pine Resources Inc. (Lone Pine), which it spun off in Q3, 2011. Forest Oil sold most of its other operations in Canada in 2011. Currently, it does not have any major operations in Canada. Apart from this, the company also held around 1.6 million net undeveloped acres in Italy and South Africa. It is in the process of seeking a production license in Italy and gas contracts in South Africa. However, Forest Oil had not carried out any major drilling in these countries as of 2011 and its major production and revenue comes from the US only.
