Telecoms and Technology Report France 1st Quarter
The Economist Intelligence Unit, February 2013, Pages: 12
The Economist Intelligence Unit estimates that France was the world's sixth-largest spender on information technology (IT) in 2012, in US dollar terms, but it is forecast to slide down the rankings into seventh place by 2017, partly on account of a weaker euro and partly because of the stagnation of the French economy during the early years of the forecast period.
IT spending amounted to around 2.7% of GDP in 2012, close to the average for the former EU15, but lower than in the UK and Scandinavia. This proportion is expected to remain broadly stable during 2013-17.
Despite a weak economic environment, France's starting position gives grounds for optimism for the forecast period as a whole-not least because it still has room to grow before telecommunications and technology penetration rates catch up with those in much of northern Europe.
