The information contained in this report comes from both primary and secondary sources. Primary research was conducted through direct interviews, face-to-face, over the phone, or via email, with mobile payment service providers. Interviews were conducted during the first quarter of 2012. Secondary research consisted of background research about mobile payments, including magazines, journals, trade publications, and Web searches in the first quarter of 2012 and analysis of previous In-Stat reports and consultation with other In-Stat analysts.

Key market trends illustrated in the research study were quantified using primary research. In-Stat conducted an electronic primary research survey of 787 individuals during the first quarter of 2012. The survey focused on identifying respondent’s usage and intended usage of mobile VoIP and video calling services.

Forecast Methodology
Mobile payment usage and transaction volume forecasting is based on analytical modeling, which in turn is based on data gathered, historical, present, and forward looking from industry sources, such as equipment providers and wireless network incumbents. All forecasts represent worldwide figures. For the purpose of this report, mobile payments include proximity (NFC/barcode technologies) and remote (mobile web, in-app, and SMS technologies).
