Summary

Russia was the second-largest producer of aluminum in the world in 2010. The demand for aluminum in Russia is relatively small, and the domestic per capita consumption is also low. The per capita consumption of aluminum in Russia remained low levels despite the strong growth in end user aluminum consumption due to huge government spending on infrastructure-related activities during the review period. Russia’s domestic aluminum supply exceeded the country’s demand throughout the review period, and this trend is projected to continue throughout the forecast period. The country’s production of aluminum recorded a low growth during the review period, although consumption grew at a faster rate. The main reason for the low growth in aluminum production is the adverse impact of the global economic crisis in 2008–2009.

However, The country’s overall aluminum consumption is expected to grow over the forecast period. This will be driven by large-scale construction activities required to prepare the country for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and 2018 Football World Cup.
