Abstract
On Jan. 27, 2011, Standard & Poor's lowered its sovereign rating on Japan to 'AA-' from 'AA'. The outlook is stable. We believe the sovereign's credit quality constrains the ratings on Japanese electric and gas utilities. We lowered by one notch to 'AA-' the long-term corporate credit ratings on five Japanese electric and two gas utilities. The outlooks are stable. TOKYO (Standard & Poor's) Jan. 28, 2011--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services today lowered to 'AA-' from 'AA' its long-term corporate credit ratings on five electric power companies and two major city gas companies, following the lowering of the sovereign rating on Japan (AA-/Stable/A-1+). (See Standard & Poor's media release "Ratings On Japan Lowered To 'AA-'; Outlook Stable," published Jan. 27)....
