Consumer Analog Market Tracker
Databeans, May 2013
Consumer analog consists of three types of products including video specific, audio specific, and motor control. AFEs are also in this category. Video processing blocks are essential to today's consumer products as well as other applications in the industrial, computer, and communications industries. Today's devices include tuners, highly integrated AFEs, processors, and SoCs with multiple demodulator outputs. Audio components constitute about $1 billion in revenue for the special purpose consumer analog market, with close to 50 percent of that coming from audio power amplifiers. Motor control devices are primarily found in appliances and other household products such as personal grooming and small kitchen appliances, but they are also found in audio video equipment.
The overall the consumer market is expected to be flat this year; however, there has been opportunity for suppliers that are serving OEM customers that are currently gaining share at the expense of some of the Japanese brands. Companies such as Samsung and LG have been particularly successful in gaining share in 2012.
