In these categories, average price growth contributed to the sales increases since consumers were willing to spend a bit more on quality, branded merchandise.
The male shopper, who pretty much was missing at the onset of the recession, is buying again. And to the delight of retailers, he is not just stocking up on suits and dress shirts, but also doing something women have been doing for years: binging on accessories.
Men are buying everything from bracelets, bags, hats, even designer umbrellas. Some forecasters predict sales growth for men’s clothing and accessories during the first three months of this year will set a 20- year high.
Accessories posted the biggest increases of any fashion business last year.
