The UK government announced on June 12th that Turks and Caicos Island (TCI) voters will be allowed to return to self-rule and an elected government following a ballot to be held on November 9th 2012.

The vote will end over three years of direct rule by the UK arising from a political corruption scandal that erupted in 2009.

The decision followed the successful conclusion in May of a budget setting process for fiscal year 2012/13 (April-March).
