Timetric, July 2012, Pages: 78

Synopsis
The report provides comprehensive and in-depth analysis, information and insights related to tourist flows in Zimbabwe, including:

- Historic and forecast tourist volumes covering the entire travel and tourism industry in Zimbabwe
- Detailed analysis of domestic, inbound and outbound tourist flows by geographic region and purpose of travel

Summary
Travel and tourism remains a vital industry for economic growth in Zimbabwe. Tourism is the third-highest foreign currency earner in the country after agriculture and mining. With uncertainties in the agricultural industry, owing to an unpredictable climate and fluctuations of agricultural products in the international market, the focus of the government in the past year has shifted to tourism. The country’s travel and tourism contribution to the national GDP increased from US$617 million in 2007 to US$771 million in 2011, reflecting a CAGR of 5.73% during the review period. Employment numbers in the sector also increased from 93,100 in 2007 to 93,300 in 2011. Visitor exports of the Zimbabwean tourism industry registered a CAGR of 5.72% during the review period to reach US$416 million in 2011. The surge in visitor exports can be attributed to increased business in the country and, with the introduction of the multicurrency system in 2009, a stabilization of economic conditions.
