Abstract
The credit ratings on the Republic of Croatia are supported by its strong record of reform and structural economic improvement over the past few years, the policy anchor provided by EU integration, and the economy's good growth prospects. The ratings are constrained by the high, albeit stabilizing, private sector net external debt burden, the need for further structural reforms, and significant reliance on the performance of the tourism sector. The arrest of former general Ante Gotovina in December 2005 removed a key obstacle to Croatia's eventual EU membership, underpinning the strength of the policy anchor provided by EU integration.
