The Chile Telecommunications Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, telecommunication associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on Chile's telecommunications industry.
Executive Summary BMI View: The Chilean mobile market continues to make strong gains, and the competitive environment continues to improve. This is particularly the case following the introduction of mobile number portability(MNP) in Q112 and MVNO Virgin Mobile in Q212. Mobile broadband is the area of strongest growth in the telecommunications sector, and looking ahead, this is likely to continue as Chileans increasingly find smartphones a convenient way of accessing internet services.
Key Data:
- In the first two months since the launch of MNP on January 16 2012, the number of subscribers that ported their mobile numbers reached 295,387 in Chile. Claro led mobile number portings,
registering net additions of 60,255 subscribers in the period ended May 31.
- Mobile broadband connections in Chile grew by around 105% to 2.96mn in 2011, compared with 2.01mn of fixed broadband connections.
