This report looks closely at the attitudes of mature Americans towards alternative medical treatment such as chiropractic, homeopathic medicine, naturopathy, acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine, Feng Shu, Q-Dong, Magnet Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Osteopathy, Aroma Therapy, Wheatgrass Therapy and other treatments and approaches.
Gives data on name recognition of the therapies, usage, and opinions on their value.
As alternative medicine seeks to gain a foothold in the broader American medical marketplace, it is particularly important that it begin to penetrate markets for medical treatments for individuals aged 50 and over, who account for significantly more than 60% of the nation’s overall medical expenditures.

Close to 16% of those in the sample have had acupuncture treatment with rates much higher among those in younger age groups. More than 20% of those in the 50-54 age group had received acupuncture treatment and nearly 27% in the 61-65 age group. Rates of usage were higher among those that do not consider themselves religious, and among those in suburbs and major and medium sized cities
