Latin America Regulatory Update
Pyramid Research, Inc, Aug 2004
Telecoms regulation has been very fluid in Latin America for over a decade, after most of region’s telecom markets opened themselves to competition. In the past couple of years, as the markets have grown more competitive and technology more advanced, regulators have tried to keep up with a number of regulatory initiatives such as opening the local loop, introducing number portability, changing interconnection charges, regulating VoIP and much more. To keep up to date on the latest developments in the region’s fixed and mobile markets, a Regulatory Update for Latin America has been put together.
In this report, the major regulatory initiatives in the region’s top 18 markets are analysed. The regulatory wrap is divided by countries, and discusses advances on local loop unbundling, new licenses and spectrum awards, number portability, unified billing, changes on tariff regulation and interconnection, among other topics.
Operators and vendors who want to be informed on the latest regulatory changes in the region’s most important markets will find this overview to be a valuable guide, while those who operate in less advanced markets can take a look at what has happened in other markets in the region to know what to expect in their markets.
