Camcorders In China – A Market Analysis
Access Asia Ltd, Dec 2004
The report covers the market for digital and analogue camcorders as they emerge as a major consumer electronics item in China.
'...The camcorder market is one of the fastest emerging sectors of the consumer electronic goods (CEGs) market with prices remaining comparatively high due to the lack of domestic brands. At present Japanese and Korean brands dominate the market.
The market is also being boosted by the rapid growth of the domestic electronic appliance chains such as Gome and Suning. These chains are noticeably more modern than the previous generation of electronics retailers and spreading rapidly across the country
Since Deng Xiaoping opened-up China’s economy to the outside world in the 1980s, there has been a massive growth in its consumer market, and the demand for CEGs has benefited from the new wealth generated in this new economic climate. Economic expansion has brought with it a rapid increase in average worker incomes in China, leading to improved standards of living and stronger consumer purchasing power.
The market has not yet reached a stage where households ownership of some form of camcorder is anywhere near universal. However, the market is increasingly competitive. One of the major aims of this report is to reveal potential entry strategies for foreign companies seeking to tap into the demand for camcorders in China. ...'
