This report presents a comprehensive analysis of customer-specific, cell-based product consumption in Asia Pacific, i.e., semiconductor devices designed for a specific customer and application, using the standard cell design methodology. Asia Pacific, unlike The Americas, was not as severely affected during the recent economic slowdown, and as such, currently represents the third largest region for the consumption of these devices. In 2003, Asia Pacific saw consumption of these products increase by over 25% year-over-year. Over the forecast period, consumption of these products in Asia Pacific is currently forecast to grow by 13.0%, shooting the region past The Americas into the second spot.

End-use consumption for these products, in Asia Pacific, is examined in detail by major end-use, as well as by major second-level end-use application, such as networks, basestations, servers, medical, et cetera. The relationship of consumption in Asia Pacific will be further compared to the same end-use application in The Americas. Additional discussions relative to the use of the MOS standard cell design approach for the manufacture of Application-Specific Standard Products (ASSPs) are also included in this report, as well as the dominance of this region in manufacturing and assembly. Also included, are discussions of product suppliers, and the issues surrounding the reporting of these products shipments, as well as voltage, packaging and mixed-signal trends.
