The packet telephony gateway market reversed direction in the first quarter of 2004, following a very strong Q4 2003, as port shipments declined sequentially by 13.6% during the quarter to 2.09 million ports (excluding universal port gateways and line access gateways). All three density segments (low, medium and high) experienced declines during the first quarter; however, the low density segment experienced the least decline, while the medium density segment experienced the greatest decline. This report includes vendor market shares for various segments of the packet voice gateway market and a rolling three-quarter forecast of the packet voice equipment market.
