MPEG Video ICs: The Promise of MPEG-4
In-Stat/MDR, June 2004, Pages: 38
The MPEG video IC market grew 48% in units and 36% in revenues in 2003. In 2004 and beyond the unit and revenue growth will be lower at under 20%. The stagnation in some of the set top box markets and DVD players will be balanced by increased shipments of DVD recorders and DTV sets, continuing the growth of MPEG video ICs for years to come. MPEG-4 ICs will become a force in the market over the next several years as broadcasters use more efficient compression to deliver video to mobile devices and other receivers.
Besides unit and revenue share data for 2003 in nine MPEG video IC categories: Broadcast and Professional MPEG-2 Encoders, Consumer MPEG-2 Encoders, MPEG-1 Decoders, SVCD MPEG-2 Decoders, DVD MPEG-2 Decoders, DBS Set Top Box MPEG-2 Decoders, Cable Set Top Box MPEG-2 Decoders, Other Online Network MPEG-2 Decoders, and MP@HL MPEG-2 Decoders, the report contains five year unit, ASP, and revenue forecasts for each of these categories. Forecasts are also provided for MPEG-4 ICs in Mobile Applications, MPEG-4 ICs in Broadcast and Published Media Applications, and H.264 ICs.
