BMI's Q113 East Africa report analyses latest industry, regulatory and macroeconomic developments in the telecoms markets of seven countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, South Sudan and Sudan. In addition to the analysis of latest market data relating to the end of Q312, the report contains updated five year forecast, through to 2017, for the mobile, fixed-line and internet sectors.

Key Data

- The six markets in the East Africa telecoms report recorded average mobile subscriber growth 5.9% during Q312.

- Rwanda recorded the fastest mobile subscriber growth of 8.3%, while Sudan recorded the slowest growth at 0.3%.

- Average mobile penetration among the six countries rose to 35.9% at the end of September 2012 from 30.9% at the end of 2011.

- Average monthly ARPU fell to US$4.8 in Q312. Only South Sudan recorded ARPU of more than US$10, while Burundi, Ethiopia Malawi and Rwanda reported sub-US$5 ARPUs.
