In the third quarter of 2004, Motorola and Sony Ericsson adjusted their product lines and then switched their Taiwanese partners. Taiwanese mobile phone shipment volume thus suffered a drop of nearly 10% sequentially to approximately 11.4 million units. Third-quarter shipment value amounted to US$790 million, falling nearly 6% sequentially. ASP slightly improved to US$69 due to changes in Taiwanese makers' product mix. The fourth quarter will likely see Taiwanese shipments on a stable growth track, driven by strong demand from Western markets as well as increases in branded shipments.

List of Topics

Quarterly forecast of Taiwanese shipment volume up to 3Q 2005. 3Q 2004 review of volume, volume by assembly level, value, ASP, and product architecture including system technology, displays, camera modules, and handset shapes. Manufacturer rankings and profiles, customer portfolios, industry concentration analysis, production locations, shipment destinations, and business types.
