Ethicon Endo-Surgery Medical Device Company Intelligence Report
Espicom Business Intelligence Ltd, April 2011, Pages: 34
Ohio, US-based Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc (EES) develops and markets advanced medical devices for minimally-invasive and open surgical procedures. The company's primary focus is on designing procedure-enabling devices for the interventional diagnosis and treatment of conditions in bariatric, breast, colorectal, ENT (ear, nose and throat), gynaecologic, orthopaedic, plastic, spine, thoracic and general surgery. In addition, the company's Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) division produces solutions to help fight healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
EES' portfolio of products includes: Endopath-, Echelon- and Proximate-branded surgical instruments, Harmonic and EnSeal energy devices and the Realize gastric band. ASP's products include Sterrad Sterilisation Systems, Evotech Endoscope Cleaner and the Glosair Area Decontamination System. The latter system was added to the company's portfolio through the acquisition of Gloster Europe in November 2009 and created a new market for ASP.
In July 2010, EES sold its Breast Care business, which sold products such as the Mammotome Breast Biopsy System and tissue markers, after determining that these products were outside the scope of its future growth platforms.
EES has manufacturing sites in the US and Mexico, and sales and distribution offices in more than 50 countries. The company also operates the Endo-Surgery Institute, an educational facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as additional training centres in Germany and Japan.
EES generated sales of almost US$4.76 billion in 2010. The company forms part of Johnson & Johnson's Medical Devices and Diagnostics business.
