‘Detailed Company Profiles 50 third-party Indian BPOs - Focused on Diversification’ brings you the first-ever compilation of detailed profiles of the top 50 third-party business process outsourcing (BPO) vendors in India. These profiles not only give company information like contact information, key people, financial data, infrastructure details, recent news, expansion plans, management, but also an insight into their strategies, competitive positioning, future outlook and much more.

Business process outsourcing is now a mainstream business activity. Rapid growth in outsourcing has resulted in a spurt in the number of providers, many of which do not have the capabilities, financial strength or scalability to service the demands of customers. Barring a few large service providers, there is very little known about the management teams, quality of infrastructure, financial health, services offered and other key parameters. Therefore, global companies looking to outsource some of their functions have to do a lot of homework and due diligence on the vendors. The BPO profiles aim to help cut down on the time and cost of identifying appropriate partners in India.

These profiles are designed to help:
- Companies looking to outsource/offshore
- Outsourcing consultants evaluate and compare the offerings of Indian vendors
- BPO companies to assess their competitive environment
- American and European BPOs looking for Indian partners
- Researchers and others looking for detailed information on India outsourcing

In addition to the company profiles, we have analyzed these key players, by services, revenues, revenue per employee, etc. We have also analyzed interesting trends in M&A, differing strategies employed, location preferences, etc to provide our readers with additional insights. Our sample of 50 companies represents roughly 80% of people employed by third-party BPOs in India.

Our analysis provides a clear direction as to the strategies (or lack of them) employed by leading Indian BPOs, and interestingly, highlights the confusion that many of them face – especially in choosing between focus and diversification. In fact, the emerging theme from this analysis could appropriately be titled “Focused on Diversification”.

The profiles are based on data from a combination of primary contacts with the respective companies as well as secondary research.

Despite the hype about new niches, most of the BPOs offer call center services. The financial services vertical accounts for three-fourths of the services offered. However, there is a definitive move towards other verticals. To survive in the BPO industry, every BPO vendor, however big or small needs to develop and work on a strategy. One Stop-Shop players offer multiple services, across various domains with a focus on all markets. On the other hand, niche players are focused on a specific service/domain and work around the domain.

We feel there will be a few large BPOs with adequate capital and the ability to scale, who will survive and successfully position themselves as One-Stop Shops. The niche players on the other hand, need to position themselves as among the best in a specific area of expertise. According to the report, Knowledge Process outsourcing is the new sunrise sector in this industry.

The profiles are based on data from a combination of primary contacts with business process outsourcing (BPO) providers as well as secondary research. In our selection of vendors, we have tried to pick the largest companies as well as those that are strongly positioned in certain niches, either by vertical or service offering.

Our definition of third party providers is companies that supply services to external customers, as opposed to “captives” that exclusively provide services to their parent companies or associates. In our definition of Indian, we have also included companies owned by US & European companies, or private international investors. To qualify, they must have a significant Indian presence, and be a third-party service provider, or owned by one.

Each profile contains a concise, yet comprehensive set of data on each of the companies, which include:

- Background: Inception, a brief history, major milestones
- Service Emphasis: List of services they offer, and specializations, if any
- Industry Emphasis: Are they focused on any particular vertical, or customer segment?
- Ownership: Details of ownership, VC investment, shareholding
- Revenues: Latest available revenues, recent growth
- GDCs/Solution Centers: Number and location of service delivery sites
- Manpower: Number of employees, growth trends, plans
- Key Clients: Type of clients, concentration

- Strengths that give them an edge over the competition
- Concerns: Any issues that may impact growth or profitability
- Key People: Brief background of key owners/managers
