Logging on: The Sawmills and Wood Production industry has faced challenging conditions, but it is set to improve over the next five years. A recovery in housing starts and remodeling activity will support demand for wood products, driving revenue growth. However, increasing competition will come from Russia, China and Brazil, which will pose a threat in the coming years.
Industry companies primarily saw dimension lumber, boards, beams, poles and siding while producing wood chips from logs or bolts. The industry also produces round wooden poles, pilings and posts that are treated with preservatives. The industry excludes the manufacturing of veneer or engineered lumber and structural members other than wood.
