Florists in the US
IBISWorld, Feb 2012, Pages: 32
Thorny conditions: Revenue wilts as supermarkets and e-retailers lure customers away
Florists in the US
Competition in full bloom
Traditional florists are feeling the heat from supermarkets and online retailers, which are luring customers by carrying comparable products at lower prices. To recoup some of the losses from this increasing competition, more florists will join national floral wire services. Others will take advantage of technological advances to increase their operating efficiency. However, the industry will continue to struggle under growing price pressures, which will keep profits low and push underperforming florists out of the industry altogether.
Operators in this industry retail cut flowers, floral arrangements and potted plants. These goods are purchased from domestic and international flower farms and wholesalers, and then retailed to the general public. Operators who primarily operate as electronic shopping websites and mail-order houses are excluded from this industry.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
