The Kyoto Protocol, which will require most developed nations including the USA and the EU to reduce its emissions of carbon dioxide by 2010, will lead to an upsurge in the use of renewable sources of energy. The EU has already proposed generating 22.5% of its electricity from renewables by 2010.
