Fertilizer Manufacturing in the US
IBISWorld, Aug 2011, Pages: 39
Fertile ground: Demand recovers from recessionary lows, but competition increases
Fertilizer Manufacturing in the US
Fertile ground: Fertilizers are primarily a commodity product, and prices are mainly determined by the world market. When the recession hit in late 2008 and 2009, demand declined as farmers reduced their crop production and distributors cut their inventories. In addition to the change in demand, the industry was negatively affected by international trade, which increased competition. However, revenue is slated to grow over the coming five years as farmers plant more crops.
Companies in this industry primarily manufacture fertilizer products. The industry manufactures a variety of products to service a range of markets, each of which contains a different mixture of the three vital nutrients essential for plant growth: nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. The products are either distributed via wholesale arrangements with third parties or, in the case of vertically integrated operations, by the manufacturer.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
