Smart cards, which consist of powerful microchips capable of storing large amounts of personal data, are being rapidly adopted by the US government as concerns over national security mount. The cards are already in use by the military, and numerous agencies are adopting the technology as well. Several steps must be taken to ensure an efficient, secure system.
