Short Messaging Services (SMS) Market Trends
Faulkner, March 2003, Pages: 8
Short Messaging Services (SMS) offer the ability to send and receive text messages between mobile telephones over cellular networks. Once used exclusively by carriers to push notifications of new voice messages down to smart cell phones, SMS has been on a fast track to universal adoption by the cellular subscribers around the world, who have adopted it as a two-way personal messaging medium. One of the most recent developments in this area is the emergence of multimedia messaging service (MMS). Like SMS, multimedia messaging provides automatic and immediate delivery of personal messages. Unlike the SMS however, MMS allows mobile phone users to enhance their messages by incorporating sound, images, and other rich content, transforming it into a more personalized method of communication.
