Global Positioning Systems Overview
Faulkner, March 2003, Pages: 9
Global Positioning Systems (GPSs) use satellites and other equipment to identify the location of a person or object anywhere in the world to within one meter. As the devices that work with GPS become smaller, the market for them continues to grow. GPS receivers have now been built into cell phones, PDAs, and other handheld devices. As acceptance grows, so do the number of applications being considered for GPS services, including transportation, e911 services, aviation, and marine deployments. This report looks at the system and the applications for Gps-based services.
