US Wireless Carrier Market Trends
Faulkner, March 2003, Pages: 15
The wireless telecommunications industry is evolving from wireless voice to converged wireless voice and data over next-generation networks. The top wireless carriers in the country are migrating to new standards despite the lack of uniformity within the country and the scarcity of spectrum. While true 3G services have not yet been offered, companies have already announced plans to further upgrade their networks and are using their current networks to increase revenues by offering Internet access, content, and business applications. Aside form 3G, Wi-Fi hotspots are popping up in hotels, airports, bookstores, and restaurants as wireless carriers add wireless broadband networking to their portfolios.
