Server Clustering Alternatives
Faulkner, March 2003, Pages: 7
Server clusters provide a method for handling variable processing and service level needs in enterprise IT environments. Clustered servers are the key to many of today's 'on demand' computing schemes, with both hardware and software vendors moving to offer servers, software, and services geared toward the clustered server strategy. A clustered environment can provide scalable processing and storage solutions equal to mainframes, backup services similar to Raid, and access to critical information resources 24x7 with little or no downtime. This article provides an overview of server clustering solutions on three key platforms and discusses best fit clustering solutions for various application and processing needs.
